- On 22 april 1910 Herman (56, tailor), his wife Esther (55) and children Edward (26, laborer), Lena (22), Grace (20, laborer), James (13), Tena (7) live on 56, 13th Street in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. They have two "boarders" (Dutch: kostgangers), namely Herman Vanderheide (23) en August Sipma (age unreadable). They all emigrated in 1907. Only August Sipma emigrated later, in 1910 (source: 1910 US census).
- On 15th Januari 1920 Herman (66, tailor at Dry Goods Store), his wife Esther (65) and children James (22, laborer at Furniture Factory) and Tena (16, clerk at Dry Goods Store) live on 1310 Lincoln Ave., Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.
